Civilian Marksmanship Program Service Rifle Clinics

Both Sunday July 31st and Sunday October 30th events are full

Clinic Fee: $10 (+ $25 for 30 or 7.62 cal., $17 for 5.56 cal. or $10 for .22 cal. ammunition – if needed)

Juniors under age 18 shoot free (+ ammunition cost, only) Junior shooters must be accompanied by parent or responsible adult.

Sign-in 7:30 AM at Ojai Valley Gun Club, Rose Valley Range. Events run until 1:00 PM

  • Certified Instructors will provide instruction and coaching in the safe handling, operation, and firing of the M1 Garand, M1A & AR-15 Service Rifles

  • Juniors or adult beginners may use conversion units in .22 long rifle caliber

  • A 35-shot match is included (prone and standing and sighters) as well as pit duty

  • Certificates of participation will be awarded. You are then eligible for Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) firearm purchase


NOTE: These events are open to the public. No previous rifle experience is necessary. Participants may use a Club-Owned M1 Rifle, or may use their own M1, M1A, 1903, 03/A3, M1 carbine, ’17 US Enfield or AR-15 rifles.

30-06 and 7.62 NATO ammunition is available at $25/person (35 rounds), 5.56 ammunition is $17, .22 LR is $10.

M-1 Carbine shooters must supply their own ammunition.

No steel-containing bullets/projectiles are permitted per United States Forest Service regulations.

ALL NON-CLUB AMMUNITION WILL BE TESTED WITH A MAGNET.

Participants should dress warmly for the morning (altitude = 3,000 ft.) and bring drinking water and a snack, as facilities on the range are limited. Internet-cell service not guaranteed.

John C. Garand, A-Course of Fire

The program will begin with activities I through III on the Covered Firing Line at the Rose Valley Range before proceeding to Live Fire. All participants must complete all three instructional sections before the Live Fire Activity, regardless of age or prior experience.
